Transfer Rumours: Adam Wharton twist as Man Utd get €20m discount
FootballTransfers runs through the biggest rumours from 1 April, including the latest updates on Adam Wharton, Joao Gomes and Arda Guler.
Chelsea join Wharton race
Chelsea have joined the likes of Real Madrid and Man Utd in the race to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, Simon Phillips claims.
The Blues are long-standing admirers of the England international and were among the clubs vying for his signature when he left Blackburn Rovers for Palace in early 2024.
They are now ready to return for Wharton amid the growing uncertainty over Enzo Fernandez, who is flirting with a move to Real Madrid. The 23-year-old has become the Stamford Bridge club's top midfield target.
Relegation discount on Gomes
Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is said to be available for a significantly reduced price this summer, according to CaughtOffside.
The Molineux side are set to drop down to Championship, which will significantly weaken their negotiating position. As a result, it is expected that Gomes' price will drop from around €60 million to just €40m.
Man Utd are among the clubs battling for his signature, although it is not believed that he is necessarily among the club's priority targets, unlike Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Wharton. Numerous other top clubs are also keeping tabs on his situation.
Guler to be transfer listed?
Real Madrid could make Arda Guler available for transfer this summer, as per TEAMtalk.
The Turkey international finds himself in an uncertain position concerning the club's long-term planning following the sacking of Xabi Alonso, who used him regularly during his brief stint with Los Blancos.
With the club expected to re-sign Nico Paz and Victor Munoz this summer, Guler could be forced to make way. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have been alerted to the situation.
Leipzig want to repeat Sesko trick with Diomande
RB Leipzig are exploring a potential contract extension for in-demand winger Yan Diomande in a bid to keep him at the club for an additional season, Sky Germany reports.
This approach previously worked with Benjamin Sesko, who was initially expected to leave the club in 2024. However, they managed to convince him to sign a new contract with an improved salary before selling him for €76.5m the following summer.
This could be trickier to achieve with Diomande, though, as pretty much every top European club is interested in signing him this year. If Leipzig can't keep hold of him, they will demand a €100m fee.
Liverpool also in Vuskovic race
Liverpool are the latest club to show an interest in Tottenham wonderkid Luka Vuskovic, according to BILD.
The 19-year-old defender is enjoying a remarkable season on loan at Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga and is reportedly being courted by Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Madrid and others.
Liverpool have now taken a "serious interest" in the Croatia international as well. Vuskovic is keen to win major trophies, making a stay at Tottenham or a permanent move to the Bundesliga, where Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are keen, unlikely.
