The Puskas Award is handed out to the player judged to have scored the best goal of the year.
The criteria are: an aesthetically beautiful goal, awarded without distinction of championship, gender or nationality.
Until 2018, the award was decided by a fan vote on FIFA’s official website. However, after Mohamed Salah controversially won the award that year with a rather unremarkable goal, the procedure was changed.
Now, FIFA-selected pundits choose the winner from a top three voted for by the public.
