Man Utd ready to pounce for 'ready-made' star after successful scouting mission

Manchester United were among the clubs left impressed on a scouting mission this week for a player likely to be among the most coveted stars on the transfer market next year.

United made just four senior signings this summer, three of which were midfielders and the other being backup goalkeeper Karl Darlow, for a total outlay of more than €173 million.

There was a desire to add an attacking player but, with Marcus Rashford remaining at the club, United will likely look to address their frontline next summer instead.

Among their targets could be Nicolo Tresoldi, who scored from the penalty spot in Club Brugge’s 3-2 loss to Aston Villa on Tuesday in front of onlooking scouts.

According to TEAMtalk, United and Tottenham were among the sides who had representatives in Belgium watching the match to monitor Tresoldi after his impressive campaign last season.

Tresoldi was the top scorer in the Belgian Pro League with 19 goals and the 22-year-old was linked with moves to the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal, however he opted to remain with Club Brugge where he will look to continue developing before making a big transfer next year.

United had eyes on Tresoldi as well as left-back Joaquin Seys, whom they were heavily linked with in the summer, while Tottenham were also in attendance for the Champions League match.

Tresoldi has been a standout performer since joining Brugge from Hannover in 2025 and the Italian-born German under-21 international held talks with Barcelona over a move during the summer before the Catalans moved for Gabriel Jesus.

United are said to see Tresoldi as a potential replacement for Joshua Zirkzee, who surprisingly remained at Old Trafford despite being out of favour under Michael Carrick.

Club Brugge president Bart Verhaeghe spoke this week of his side’s selling policy, admitting that, while player such as Tresoldi could leave next year, it was all part of their plan to make youngsters ‘ready made’ for a big move.

“That was the agreement,” Verhaeghe told Het Belang van Limburg about Tresoldi and Seys staying with Brugge. “If they’re smart guys, they’ll look beyond the daily fluctuations of the transfer market. Last year, we also said that Christos Tzolis had to stay. This summer, he was ready to go (to Arsenal).”

“That’s what we do here: deliver a ready-made product,” he added. “Because we know what those top teams are looking for. We prepare our players for that kind of football.”
