Mikel Arteta picks Arsenal's next superstar forward
Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs monitoring Barcelona forward Ferran Torres ahead of a potential move during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Spain international, who has 54 senior caps for his country, has scored 16 goals in 40 games this season, but he has been heavily linked with a Camp Nou departure this summer, despite the fact that fellow attacker Robert Lewandowski could also leave.
Hansi Flick’s side are desperate to finalise a deal for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez ahead of the 2026-27 campaign and it’s understood they could help fund a move for the Argentina international by sanctioning the sale of Torres.
The 26-year-old arrived at Barcelona from Manchester City for €55 million in January 2022 and he could be set to return to the Premier League if reports are believed.
Spanish publication Fichajes claim that Manchester United are considering launching a summer bid for the forward, while Arsenal are also closely monitoring his development as they look to bolster the attacking options available to Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners are also interested in signing the aforementioned Alvarez, but they could be forced to pursue a cut-price alternative, such as Torres, as they look to strengthen their options in defense and midfield too.
Viktor Gyokeres remains Arsenal preferred centre forward, however his place in the starting XI could be threatened by Torres if a move is finalised and Arteta favours his compatriot.
Arsenal’s summer transfer plans
In addition to Torres, FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal are also interested in signing Newcastle United duo Valentino Livramento and Sandro Tonali this summer.
The Gunners are keen to sign a new left winger too, with Leandro Trossard and Martinelli both linked with an exit in recent weeks.
AC Milan’s Rafael Leao remains on their radar, although the club could opt to rekindle their interest in Athletic Club superstar Nico Williams following their failed pursuit last summer.
