Cameron Smith is a digital football journalist who specialises in writing about European football, and he has worked for FootballTransfers since its launch in November 2020.
In his current role Cameron works on the news desk, writing both features and news stories, as well as producing much of the site’s SEO content. Cameron is also the website’s primary Chelsea correspondent having previously been the chief Chelsea writer at FootballTransfers’ sister site FootballCritic.
Smith specialises in writing about the Blues, but has an equally extensive expertise in wider European football, with a keen interest in young stars who are ready to become household names.
Away from FootballTransfers, Cameron works in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ media team on an internship, producing written content for the club’s matchday programme and website. Through this role he has interviewed Joleon Lescott and several other former Wolves stars, as well as many of the current Wolves Women squad.
Before starting his internship at Wolves, Cameron had interviews with Maximilian Kilman and Owen Otasowie published on the club’s website, with the latter being adapted for publication on the official Premier League website.
In addition, Smith hosts his own European football show - ‘The Back To Goal Podcast’ - which delves into stories across the continent on a weekly basis. The podcast puts focus on the major talking points from each matchday in Europe’s top five leagues. As a result, Cameron has strong knowledge and experience of audio and podcast production to go
alongside his writing skills.
Furthermore, Smith writes for Get French Football News and has also had his work published for Football.London, GloucestershireLive, SurreyLive, The Ealing Times and Channel 4’s Paralympic website during the 2018 Pyeongchang Games. Alongside his work for FootballTransfers and other organisations, Cameron is currently in his third and final year studying sport journalism at the University of Gloucestershire.
