€30m star confirms Chelsea transfer truth
Trevoh Chalobah has confirmed that he left Chelsea to join Como this summer as it was “the right time to try something different and try something new.”
The England international, who started the Three Lions’ 2-0 win over Czechia last week, was heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge exit throughout the summer transfer window and he eventually completed a €30 million move to Como on 9 August.
Chalobah has already started five games for Como since his arrival at the club, winning three, and he has almost immediately established himself as an integral player under the tutelage of ex-Chelsea superstar Cesc Fabregas.
It was initially felt that Chalobah was forced to leave Chelsea following the club’s decision to sign Crystal Palace star Maxence Lacroix, but he has now confirmed that he wanted to depart the west London giants in search of a new opportunity, despite starting 31 Premier League matches last season.
“I’m really happy with what I achieved [at Chelsea],” Chalobah told The Evening Standard. “Everything has tested me. It is testament to my faith and how I’ve gone about things there.
“Growing up at Chelsea, with what they did for me, and how they allowed me to get to the first team, I enjoyed every moment - the trophies I won, the big games I played in.
“It’s been amazing. I felt now was the right time to try something different and try something new.”
Trevoh Chalobah confirms Thiago Silva contact
Meanwhile, Chalobah has also revealed that he remains in regular contact with former Chelsea team-mate Thiago Silva.
“Thiago has been a person I have always looked up to,” the Como defender said. “All the time when I was in school I used to watch YouTube videos of him, compilations of his game, from the time he was at AC Milan. To finally play with him at Chelsea was amazing and another dream come true.
“I’m always in contact with him. When he was at Chelsea, I used to study his recovery and how he performed and operated. That’s what I learned from him: the ‘what if’ situation. He always used to say: ‘What if this happens or [that happens]?’
“We talk online a lot, on Instagram. Funnily enough, he was at the England-Spain game watching, so that was good.”
