Chelsea Transfer News Today: Rayan Cherki wanted as January agreement revealed
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Rayan Cherki and Olutayo Subuloye.
Rayan Cherki wanted
Chelsea have rekindled their interest in Manchester City superstar Rayan Cherki, as per a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The France international was heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge switch during his time at Lyon and it’s understood that he has now re-emerged as a transfer target for the Blues amid the current uncertainty surrounding Man City’s future.
The eight-time Premier League champions are awaiting their punishment after being found guilty of 114 financial charges and relegation from the top-flight could potentially be issued, which would likely lead to a flurry of player exits.
Xabi Alonso is reportedly a huge fan of Cherki and the Chelsea hierarchy are now analysing the possibility of a transfer, with an offer worth around €90 million potentially set to be submitted.
Olutayo Subuloye agreement
Chelsea have reportedly agreed to finalise a loan deal for academy defender Olutayo Subuloye during the upcoming January transfer window.
The 18-year-old caught the eye during the Blues’ pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, and after an excellent start to the regular campaign at U21 level, the club have decided to pursue a loan deal in order to accelerate his development.
That is according to The Evening Standard, who report that several European clubs have already submitted loan enquiries to sign the centre-back, while teams in the English pyramid are also likely to vie for his signature in January.
Subuloye, who was named the captain of Chelsea’s U21 side over the summer, has over three-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, and it’s understood that he is valued extremely highly by club staff, with many believing that he will develop into a first-team regular.
Jules Kounde deal?
Chelsea are one of five Premier League clubs keeping close tabs on Jules Kounde’s situation at Barcelona, as per reports in Spain.
Kounde has been an integral player for Barca since his arrival at the club in 2022, but he has fallen down the pecking order under Hansi Flick and he has only started one La Liga match so far this term, while he has been an unused substitute in their last three league games.
The France international still has over three-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at Camp Nou, after signing an extension last summer, but his diminished role has attracted the attention of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
Spanish outlet SPORT claim that Arsenal and Chelsea have emerged as the frontrunners in the race to sign Kounde next year, but Barcelona are yet to receive a formal approach.
Geovany Quenda latest
Geovany Quenda is yet to nail down a regular starting XI spot since his arrival at Chelsea, but he remains optimistic that he will receive significant first-team minutes this season, according to Football.London.
The Portugal U21 international is firmly behind Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto in the pecking order in west London, and he has only played 27 minutes of action across all competitions since his arrival in Sporting CP.
However, when asked about his lack of game time so far this term, Quenda told O Jogo (via Sport Witness): “About what I don’t control, I can’t do anything. They’re the manager’s decisions. I just have to keep giving my best.”
Trevoh Chalobah breaks silence on exit
Trevoh Chalobah has confirmed that he left Chelsea to join Como this summer as it was “the right time to try something different and try something new.”
Chalobah has already started five games for Como since his arrival at the club, winning three, and he has almost immediately established himself as an integral player under the tutelage of ex-Chelsea superstar Cesc Fabregas.
It was initially felt that Chalobah was forced to leave Chelsea following the club’s decision to sign Crystal Palace star Maxence Lacroix, but he has now confirmed that he wanted to depart the west London giants in search of a new opportunity, despite starting 31 Premier League matches last season.
“I’m really happy with what I achieved [at Chelsea],” Chalobah told The Evening Standard. “Everything has tested me. It is testament to my faith and how I’ve gone about things there.
“Growing up at Chelsea, with what they did for me, and how they allowed me to get to the first team, I enjoyed every moment - the trophies I won, the big games I played in.
“It’s been amazing. I felt now was the right time to try something different and try something new.”
JJ Gabriel failure
Chelsea have reportedly failed in their pursuit of Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel, who is set to secure a move to a foreign club shortly.
The 16-year-old informed Man Utd of his desire to leave the club last month and his representatives have been locked in transfer talks with the biggest teams in Europe over the past few weeks.
The England youth international hasn’t trained with his Man Utd academy team-mates since asking for his contract to be terminated, and while the Red Devils hierarchy were initially confident of resolving the situation, it now looks highly likely that Gabriel will leave Old Trafford.
The teenager is eligible to join an overseas club due to the fact he holds an Irish passport, and his representatives have been in lengthy talks with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid over the international break.
Chelsea are also interested in poaching Gabriel, however it is far more difficult for the 16-year-old to join a fellow English club mid-season and talkSPORT claim that Xabi Alonso’s side have been told the Man Utd youngster “is leaving the Premier League for a move to a European giant.”
