Manchester United could be thwarted in their ambitions to sign Yan Diomande this summer, with RB Leipzig looking towards a familiar trick to keep hold of their star man this summer.

Diomande has emerged as a standout performer across Europe since his €20 million transfer from Leganes last summer, with ten goals and seven assists in 26 Bundesliga matches.

The 19-year-old’s performances have led to strong interest from elite sides across the continent such as United, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Although Diomande has four years remaining on his contract, Leipzig are understood to be open to his sale in order to raise funds, although they are expected to demand an asking price of around €100m.

However, according to Sky Sport Germany, Leipzig would prefer to cash in on defender Castello Lukeba – linked with Arsenal – over Diomande and are preparing to offer their wonderkid forward a new contract.

The new deal would lead to a significant financial boost and remain without a release clause before being sold next summer in a move similar to Benjamin Sesko, who rejected offers from elsewhere to renew at Leipzig before joining United last year for €76.5m.

Diomande not pushing for Leipzig exit despite Man Utd and Liverpool interest

Diomande remaining at Leipzig would certainly be a blow to United, who had aimed to make the winger their marquee attacking signing of the summer, although the €100m asking price may prove a stumbling block.

United are hoping to sign a left-sided forward to replace the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, both of whom are expected to permanently leave Old Trafford this summer.

Liverpool are also expected to push heavily for Diomande as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, who confirmed last week that he would be ending his time at Anfield at the end of the season.

Diomande has not pushed to leave Leipzig as of yet and a move could still be on the cards this year but the youngster recently revealed that he is grateful to be a part of Leipzig’s team.

“I can only say that I'm blessed. There's not a lot of people who get this opportunity. I wanted to say thank you to God because I'm blessed,” Diomande said.

"This life is amazing. I have it because of RB Leipzig. I'm so happy to be here and to continue with the team.”
