Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal, 2022/23

Arsenal have been one of European football's best clubs in the 2022-23 season, finally returning to the levels that made all of the continent fall in love under Arsene Wenger.

Mikel Arteta’s side is rammed full of some of Europe’s most exciting prospects, as well as some of the best paid players across the continent.

There’s little doubt that the London club have tried desperately to overhaul their wage structure in recent seasons, letting big-name players like Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang essentially leave the club for free in an attempt to redirect the wage bill to younger and more promising players.

However, despite Arsenal’s best efforts, there are still a number of players on big wages at the club.

Here is how the current breakdown of Arsenal’s squad looks in terms of wages earned each year.

Following Aubameyang’s move to Barcelona in the January 2022 transfer window, Arsenal’s top earner became Gabriel Jesus, who earns just under €16 million. following his transfer from Man City in the summer of 2022.

In second place is defensive midfielder Thomas Partey, who earns around €9.6m following his big-money move to the club from Atletico Madrid in 2020.

Like Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko also joined from Manchester City last summer and is not far behind.

There is a group of senior players that are in the second tier of top earners at the club. This begins with Nicolas Pepe who earns €8.5m per year, followed by Granit Xhaka, Bernd Leno, Benjamin White, Martin Odegaard and Kieran Tierney who earn between €6m and €4.5m per year. Arsenal are looking to sell Pepe this summer when he returns from loan.

At this moment in time there are a number of young stars at Arsenal that have yet to sign new contracts that really represent their contributions to Arteta’s side, such as Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, who only make €2.4m and €2m per year, respectively.

Fellow youngster Eddie Nketiah signed a bumper new contract last summer, tying him down until 2027 on a improved deal.

Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner also signed, while William Saliba returned from loan and established himself as a regular in Arsenal's defence, and with just two years left on his deal, he is a prime candidate for renewal.
