The France international was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge before joining Barca in 2022 and the Blues are keen to finally bring him to west London ahead of next season.

Kounde has been a regular throughout his career at Camp Nou, however rumours have suggested that he could be sold this summer as the Blaugrana look to raise funds amid their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.

The 27-year-old has racked up 182 appearances for Hansi Flick’s side, but the Spanish giants are willing to sanction a permanent sale if they receive an offer in the region of €80 million.

That is according to a report from CaughtOffside, who claim that Chelsea are ready to make an “aggressive push” to sign Kounde this summer as they look to bolster the defensive options available to Liam Rosenior next season.

Liverpool and Manchester City are also monitoring Kounde’s situation at Barcelona, but Chelsea are currently the frontrunners for the Frenchman’s signature, despite the fact he is yet to express a desire to leave Camp Nou.

Liam Rosenior wants added experience

News of Chelsea’s interest in finalising a deal for Kounde this summer comes following reports that suggest they will pivot their transfer strategy during the upcoming window.

The Blues are now ready to sign proven players as they look to build a squad capable of regularly competing for major honours from next season onwards, and this was confirmed by Rosenior ahead of Chelsea’s 7-0 win over Port Vale in the FA Cup.

When asked about his wish for the summer window, the Blues head coach admitted: “Bringing players with emotional stability, bringing good characters in, who in difficult moments can understand what it takes to win in those difficult moments.

“We’ve had great conversations with the ownership and support directors about what we do in the summer. And we’ve also had conversations with certain players in the group as well, who are really, really happy with the direction that we’re going to go in.”
