Chelsea Transfer News Today: Luka Vuskovic chase on as deal announced
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Luka Vuskovic and Freddy Bernal.
Luka Vuskovic wanted
Chelsea have reportedly rekindled their interest in Luka Vuskovic, following their failed pursuit of the Croatia international this summer.
Vuskovic has scored one goal and provided one assist in 12 games since his move to Brighton & Hove Albion and his form hasn’t gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea all keeping close tabs on his situation, as per TEAMtalk.
It’s reported that all three clubs are watching Vuskovic with keen interest as they plot a possible approach next summer, with Bayern currently regarded as the frontrunners amid the uncertain long-term future of Kim Min-jae.
Chelsea remain eager to sign the 19-year-old too, despite the summer arrival of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, and Vuskovic could become the latest Brighton player to move to Stamford Bridge during the BlueCo era if Xabi Alonso’s side are able to finalise a big-money deal.
Freddy Bernal signs a new deal
Chelsea academy goalkeeper Freddy Bernal has officially signed a new contract at the club, valid until June 2029.
Bernal, an England U19 international, helped Chelsea win the U18 Premier League title last season and he has made eight appearances for ‘Cobham Next Gen’ so far this season.
Kendry Paez wants to leave
Chelsea youngster Kendry Paez is reportedly ready to leave the club during the upcoming winter transfer window.
Paez endured a torrid loan spell at Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg during the first half of last season, racking up just 21 appearances across all competitions before he was recalled in January. The Ecuador international was then sent to River Plate on a temporary deal, however he fared similarly poorly and his loan spell was cancelled by the Argentine giants in August.
Since his return to Stamford Bridge, Paez has been placed in Chelsea’s U21 squad and he now wants to leave the club in January, according to transfer reporter Nicolo Schira.
Liam Delap lifts lid on exit
Nottingham Forest striker Liam Delap has lifted the lid on his Chelsea exit over the summer after being cast aside by the Blues ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
“Obviously it’s a bit rubbish going to train away from the group, but I think I’ve got really good people around me,” Delap told The Telegraph.
“My dad [Rory] has been through it all, and you hear everything that happens in football, so nothing surprises you. That good culture that I’ve got around me helped and it’s just about keeping your head down. Only do what you can do right because if you do something bad then it will only be negative on you.”
He added: “You have your ups and downs, and I’ll never regret doing anything because it just shapes me as a person.
“I’m still only young and not everyone is on a linear path. I learned so much from Chelsea. Even when I was on loan at Stoke and Preston, they didn’t work out football-wise but they taught me so much. Sometimes you learn and benefit more when things are not going well.”
Pedro Neto contract admission
Chelsea winger Pedro Neto has confirmed that Xabi Alonso played a key role in his decision to sign a new long-term contract at the club following substantial transfer speculation.
The Portugal international was heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge exit over the summer and it was widely reported that a sale would have been sanctioned if the Blues had received an offer worth around €100 million.
Liverpool were among the clubs keeping close tabs on Neto’s situation in west London, however they ultimately decided against lodging an approach after signing Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, and the 26-year-old remained at Chelsea.
“I think the biggest point was the manager,” Neto told The Times when asked about his decision to extend his Chelsea contract until 2032.
“He talked to me and explained what he wanted. He made sure that I felt like I was wanted by him. Then the owner [Behdad Eghbali], as well, made sure that I was happy here.
“I was really happy that we could agree [the contract]. When you feel like you are appreciated, you always feel like home. That was the feeling that I had.”
Alejandro Garnacho to return?
Aston Villa are ready to back out of their deal to sign Alejandro Garnacho on a permanent deal unless his form improves, according to Football Insider.
The Chelsea winger joined Unai Emery’s side on an initial loan deal in July, with the agreement including an obligation-to-buy clause if certain conditions are met.
However, Garnacho has only made five appearances so far this season, totalling just 60 minutes of action, and Villa are reportedly ready to “freeze him out” in order to avoid signing him permanently.
