Salah leaves Liverpool: €200m Saudi transfer a matter of time as talks start
Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah has opened up to the idea of moving to Saudi Arabia and is already in talks with Al-Ittihad, according to a report.
The Jeddah giants are long-standing admirers of the Egyptian, but previous attempts at signing him proved fruitless. Liverpool rejected massive offers for Salah in the past because neither they nor the player were keen on separating.
Although it looked foolish at the time, given his age, it was ultimately a shrewd decision. The 33-year-old fired the Reds to their first Premier League title since 2020 last season.
He was handed a new contract on the back of his record-breaking campaign, but things haven't been as rosy this term. Liverpool are enduring a dire season, and Salah himself no longer looks the player he once was.
When Salah was dropped to the bench by Arne Slot in late 2025, he exploded. He publicly criticised the head coach and cast doubt on his future at the club. Slot ultimately managed to smooth things over, and Salah stayed put in January, but the incident left its mark.
Salah in talks with Al-Ittihad
According to Foot Mercato, the veteran forward remains frustrated with the overall situation at Liverpool, and he is ready for a new challenge in the summer. As a result, his agent Ramy Abbas has begun holding concrete talks with Al-Ittihad.
The reigning Pro League champions are coming off a chastening January window in which they lost Karim Benzema to Al-Hilal after a contract dispute and N'Golo Kante to Fenerbahce.
This summer, Fabinho will be out of contract, while Moussa Diaby's future is also uncertain after he tried to engineer a winter move to Inter. It is therefore clear that Al-Ittihad will go big in the next window.
Salah would be the crown jewel of the new-look team, and the report points out that the move would suit all parties. With the player under contract until 2027, Liverpool would receive a fee, while the Egyptian would become one of the best-paid players in the world.
Saudi transfer expert Ben Jacobs revealed in December that Salah could earn up to €200 million per year should he make the move to the Pro League. Al-Hilal, NEOM SC and Aramco-owned Al-Qadsiah were keen on a January deal for the 33-year-old.
FootballTransfers exclusively reported back in August that Salah is fully expected to take up a Saudi offer in the summer of 2026.
