Fabrizio Romano confirms Arsenal agree January deadline day transfer for ex-Tottenham wonderkid
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal have made a January signing on deadline day by agreeing a deal for England under-19 international Jaden Dixon.
The Gunners have not signed anyone throughout the month after spending a large amount during the summer but options are being considered in midfield after Mikel Merino’s injury.
Arsenal have also seen Tottenham hijack a move for Hearts youngster James Wilson and, while moves for other young targets are ongoing, Romano has revealed that Dixon is close to joining Mikel Arteta’s side.
Dixon came through the academy of Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham before joining Stoke in 2023, where he made two appearances for the first team last season, however he has yet to feature this year.
Arsenal are set to pay €3.5 million plus add-ons for Dixon, with the 18-year-old penning a four-year deal after the Gunners reportedly beat numerous teams to his signing.
The move has yet to be formally confirmed by Arsenal but it is expected that a deal will be complete before the 7pm transfer deadline on Monday.
Arsenal set for quiet end to January transfer window
Arsenal were not expected to make major signings this month and even the pursuit of a Merino replacement would only be if a short-term loan option became available at the last minute.
Newcastle star Sandro Tonali had reportedly been offered to Arsenal by the Italian’s agent but these claims were denied by his representative and a deal is considered impossible at this stage.
St Mirren youngster Evan Mooney is believed to be in North London for a medical after a deal was explored for the forward but it remains to be seen if, like Dixon, the deal gets ratified in the final moments of the window.
The only other major deals Arsenal have conducted throughout the month has been the sale of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Ajax as well as the loan move of Ethan Nwaneri to Marseille, with the youngster refusing to rule out the possibility of making the switch permanent down the line.
“Anything is possible in football,” Nwaneri said. “We'll see what happens. We'll see if there's any contact. I can't tell you what will happen. We'll see when it happens."
