Arsenal Transfer News Today: FIRST permanent January deal confirmed as Alvarez rumours
All the latest transfer news and gossip from the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal seek to finish the January window with a bang, including an update on the prospective signing of Julian Alvarez and a new midfield target.
Zinchenko poised to leave Arsenal
Arsenal’s first permanent January transfer is on the verge of completion with Oleksandr Zinchenko poised to leave the club and join Ajax on a permanent basis, Fabrizio Romano reports.
The Ukraine international has become something of a forgotten man at the Emirates. He was moved on loan to Nottingham Forest earlier this season but failed to establish himself at the City Ground, and six months before the end of his deal with the Gunners has been recalled to join Ajax.
Zinchenko, a left-back who can also play central midfield, will leave Arsenal in a deal worth €1.5 million plus bonus payments.
He will be the first major permanent deal the Gunners have conducted this month, with the only other deal Ethan Nwaneri’s loan switch to Marseille.
Julian Alvarez to Arsenal: Rumour resurfaces as Atleti make confession
Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid in the summer, despite previous reports indicating that the Spanish club will demand a transfer fee of €150 million for the former Manchester City attacker.
Viktor Gyokeres’ comparatively disappointing form since arriving from Sporting CP in the summer has prompted the Gunners to look at the World Cup winner, according to the Daily Mail.
A key figure in this deal is set to be sporting director Andrea Berta, who is doing due diligence on Alvarez, who has scored 11 goals in 30 appearances for Atleti so far this season.
Berta was the director behind Alvarez’s move to Spain, having been in charge of Los Colchoneros’ transfer policy when he was snapped up from Manchester City for €75 million.
The player, who is on a run of 10 La Liga games without a goal, now has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €120m.
“He's going through a moment where we don’t know what’s happening to him,” Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo admitted.
Arteta ‘eager’ for €55m midfielder signing
A new central midfielder has been on Arsenal’s agenda for several weeks, with Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi a surprise candidate to fulfil that role.
Chelsea and Manchester United are also tracking the 20-year-old ball-winner, The Mirror reports.
A move is not thought to be likely before Deadline Day. Manzambi has had a price of €55m put on his head by the Bundesliga side, which Arsenal are unwilling to pay. The player’s ETV stands at €19.4m.
