Liverpool have given Jeremy Jacquet the green light to receive surgery on an injury sustained while playing with Rennes at the weekend.

Jacquet has been snapped up by Liverpool in a deal worth a total of €70 million, but the young centre-back will only move to Anfield in the summer.

There is, however, a possibility that he has played his last match for Rennes after suffering a dislocated shoulder in an innocuous circumstance.

Rennes face ‘moral dilemma’

Rennes have yet to make an official statement about Jacquet’s injury, but face what is described by local media as a “moral dilemma”. Either the player can have surgery and miss around three months – effectively ending his season – or he can receive treatment, return quickly and run the risk of relapse.

The Ligue 1 side could certainly use the centre-back given their recent poor run of form, which has seen head coach Habib Beye leave the club earlier this week.

Liverpool ready to green light Jacquet surgery

Liverpool have made their feelings on the issue clear, with the Reds wanting to get Jacquet’s problem fully cleared up before he completes his move to Anfield in the summer, TeamTalk reports.

As such, Arne Slot’s side are ready to give surgery the green light but are waiting on more scans and consultation with experts.

“As it stands, the injury is understood to be significant enough to warrant serious consideration of surgery, but final decisions will rest on specialist assessments in the coming days,” it reports.

Any similarities to Salah’s Champions League final injury?

Jacquet’s injury appears to be different from the one that struck Mohamed Salah in the 2018 Champions League final when he clashed with Sergio Ramos 25 minutes into the game.

Initially, there were fears the Egypt international attacker had suffered a shoulder dislocation, but it later emerged that he had sprained a joint, causing him to miss around three weeks of action before taking part in the 2018 World Cup.

With the dislocation for Jacquet all but confirmed officially, his road to recovery appears to be longer – yet he should still be fit to take part in pre-season with Liverpool all being well.
