Slot makes Liverpool demand: New contract or I quit
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been faced with the threat of the sack at Anfield for weeks – but the Dutchman could resign from his post before the board have the chance to dump him, according to a sensational report.
Slot won the Premier League in his first season with the Reds, yet things have not been so smooth in this second campaign. After a record summer spend, Liverpool find themselves fifth in the Premier League table, with no shot of retaining their title and facing a battle even to qualify for the Champions League.
The manager’s future has hung in the balance for months, with his difficult relationship with Mohamed Salah offering further cause for concern. But while many expect Slot to leave the club by being sacked, Indykaila has claimed that the former Feyenoord boss may take matters into his own hands and quit.
Slot demands a new deal
The anonymous transfer gossip account claims that there has been a rift developing between Slot and the board that could prompt the 47-year-old to resign.
It claims that Slot wants a new contract at Anfield but that will only come with clauses installed by the board that the manager does not want.
This threatens to cause a division that will result in the manager resigning.
Slot’s current Anfield deal expires in 2027, and while there’s never quite the same urgency to tie down managers in the way there is for players, it would be understandable if he were to seek assurances over his long-term future.
What’s really happening at Liverpool?
There is enormous conjecture over Slot’s position at Liverpool, much of which conflicts. While The Independent claimed that the Reds have no plans to sack their manager, many other sources are insistent that the Dutch boss is expected to leave at the end of the season.
This latest report that Slot could resign adds to the chaos surrounding his future and makes it even less clear what the future holds for Liverpool in the summer and beyond.
