Arne Slot will have his pick of clubs after Liverpool sacking
The pressure on Arne Slot at Liverpool has been immense for months. The 47-year-old manager is having a disappointing campaign at Anfield and is constantly linked with the sack.
Should it come to that, Slot need not fear the so-called 'black hole'. In fact, clubs are already lining up for him.
Slot's future remains extremely uncertain. While he managed to lead Liverpool to the Premier League title at Anfield, the club now sits in a disappointing fifth place. With ten defeats in the league and a 21-point deficit to leaders Arsenal, retaining the title is now officially out of sight. Even Champions League qualification is on the line.
While the management of the club is sticking by the Dutchman for now, a review of the season come the summer will determine his future.
Of course, winning the Premier League means he still has credit in the bank, while the board are also prepared to back him due to mitigating circumstances this year, not least the tragic death of attacker Diogo Jota in the summer of 2025.

Champions League as a bright spot
Though things are not going smoothly in the Premier League – the Reds picked up only one point from three matches in March - Arne Slot's team is performing adequately in Europe. After a narrow 1-0 defeat in the Champions League last-16 first leg, Liverpool recovered impressively by beating Galatasaray 4-0 at Anfield.
In the quarter-finals, a gruelling encounter with defending champions Paris Saint-Germain now awaits. Liverpool are also still in the FA Cup, following convincing victories over Brighton and Wolverhampton Wanderers. This seems like the shortest route to another trophy for Slot.
Slot’s future options
Should Liverpool decide to part ways with Arne Slot as head coach in the short term, the Dutchman has plenty of options up his sleeve. Clubs such as Ajax, Athletic Bilbao, Tottenham Hotspur, and VfL Wolfsburg could potentially be options.
Clubs Looking for a new coach
| Club | Status |
|---|---|
| Ajax | Interim coach Oscar García will leave next summer |
| AZ | Looking for a new coach after Maarten Martens' departure |
| FC Utrecht | Ron Jans is retiring |
| Juventus | Luciano Spalletti's contract is expiring |
| Rayo Vallecano | Inigo Pérez's contract is expiring |
| Athletic Bilbao | Ernesto Valverde is stepping down |
| Villarreal | Marcelino's contract is expiring |
| Getafe | Jose Bordalas's contract is expiring |
| FC Girona | Michel's contract is expiring |
| RCD Mallorca | Martin Demichelis's contract is expiring |
| Tottenham Hotspur | Igor Tudor is temporarily in charge |
| Crystal Palace | Oliver Glasner is stepping down |
| VfL Wolfsburg | Dieter Hecking is temporarily in charge |
| 1. FC Koln | Looking for a new coach after Lukas Kwasniok was dismissed |
| FC Augsburg | Manuel Baum's contract is expiring |
| Werder Bremen | Daniel Thioune's contract is expiring |
In addition, it is expected that a large number of clubs will see their manager leave in the coming months.
Consider Bournemouth, for example, where Andoni Iraola is at the helm. The Basque is strongly linked to a return to Spain, which would free up the dugout on the south coast. This also applies to Chelsea, too. Liam Rosenior is under heavy pressure. His dismissal would not come as a huge surprise in England.
In short: Arne Slot has plenty of options open to him if he loses his job at Liverpool.
