Manchester United have identified Bayern Munich wonderkid Maycon Cardozo and Blackburn Rovers defender Tom Atcheson as targets.

The Red Devils' summer planning is in full swing. Though INEOS primarily targeted Premier League-ready players last summer, their original mission statement of swooping for highly-rated prospects remains club policy.

Consequently, Man Utd are scouring the market for talents they could add to their youth ranks this summer. According to TEAMtalk, one player that has caught their eye is Tom Atcheson at Blackburn Rovers.

The 19-year-old has made 11 senior appearances for the Championship club so far in his young career, nine of them coming this season. He also has one senior cap for Northern Ireland to his name.

A talented centre-back, Atcheson has been compared to former Man Utd defender Phil Jones, who also came through the Rovers academy before making the move to Old Trafford. The teenager has signed a new long-term deal, but the Ewood Park side are braced for strong summer interest.

Man Utd also keen on Cardozo

The same outlet also reports that Man Utd have earmarked Bayern Munich youngster Maycon Cardozo as a potential target. Born in Brazil, the 17-year-old grew up in Thailand, where his father played professionally, before transferring to Germany.

Maycon doesn't turn 18 until October, so the earliest opportunity for him to make the move to Old Trafford would be next January. The teenager is primarily a winger who is currently trying to break into Bayern's fourth-tier reserves.

Such has been his development, however, that he may skip that step altogether. Vincent Kompany handed him his senior debut against Borussia Monchengladbach at the start of March, and he again had a brief cameo against Union Berlin ahead of the international break.

Cardozo, too, just signed a new contract, but Man Utd scouts are closely following his progress, it is claimed. For now, there is nothing to suggest that the young Brazilian will move anytime soon, but the Red Devils are massive admirers and could make an attempt to sign him in the future.
