Arsenal Transfer News Today: Summer bid prepared as Arteta eyes new forwards
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Anthony Gordon and Gonzalo Garcia.
Anthony Gordon bid
Arsenal will make a bid for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon as Mikel Arteta plans a change in transfer strategy that will see the Gunners seek to build a core around English players, FootballTransfers understands..
Newcastle sources had previously indicated that the Magpies have no interest in selling Gordon this summer, but it is understood that the St James’ Park side will be willing to allow two or three players to leave.
Arsenal’s plan to at least bid for Gordon is part of a broader strategy from the North London side to build more of an English core in the squad. This is part of their thinking behind moving for Gordon and also helps to explain their ongoing interest in fellow Newcastle star Tino Livramento.
Gonzalo Garcia interest
Arsenal are reportedly already working on a deal to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed an immense 2025-26 campaign to date, but they are expected to dip back into the market this summer in a bid to further bolster their first-team squad ahead of next season.
Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has emerged as Arsenal’s dream summer signing, although the club have now added Garcia to their list of potential striker targets.
That is according to Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim that Arteta’s side are already working on the financial details of a possible swoop. It’s understood that Arsenal are likely to offload Gabriel Jesus on a permanent deal to help fund a move for the Real Madrid attacker, although they could face surprise competition from Newcastle United.
Garcia has only started 12 matches across all competitions for Real Madrid so far this season, due to competition from Kylian Mbappe, but he has still caught the eye in limited minutes this term. The 22-year-old has netted six goals and provided two assists this campaign, while he has scored in each of his last five games for Spain’s U21 side.
Nicolo Tresoldi latest
Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi has emerged as a striker target for Arsenal in recent weeks, although transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that negotiations are yet to begin.
“At the moment, I am not in a position to give any final verdict. But what I can tell you is that, according to my information, there is nothing really advanced or concrete between Arsenal and Tresoldi,” Romano told his YouTube channel.
“The same applies to Pio Esposito. He is a talent, yes, but Arsenal are not working to sign him. They can scout him and follow him, of course, but they are not in active talks. Same for Tresoldi.
“So at the moment, Arsenal are not in active discussions for Esposito or Tresoldi. If anything changes, I will be here to update you.”
Christian Kofane boost
Christian Kofane’s agent has confirmed that Arsenal are in pole position to sign the Bayer Leverkusen striker this summer, and the Gunners have now been handed a fresh boost in their bid to sign him.
Kofane has 15 goal contributions in 39 games so far this season and Bayern Munich have unsurprisingly also been linked with a summer move for the 19-year-old due to his form in the Bundesliga.
However, Sky Germany have revealed that Vincent Kompany’s side are not pursuing a deal for Kofane. They are instead focused on finalising a contract extension agreement with Harry Kane.
