Oleksandr Zinchenko signs his Arsenal contract

Between Kylian Mbappe's decision to remain with PSG, the uncertainty of Cristiano Ronaldo's future, a couple of €100 million deals and the drama over Jules Kounde's move, the 2022 summer transfer window has been packed with incident and talking points over blue chip players.

Money has been flying around Europe's top leagues, but particularly the Premier League, where the spending of England's elite nearly matches those clubs from the other four major divisions.

Liverpool's signing of Darwin Nunez is undoubtedly the biggest move made in terms of finances as it could top €100m, while Manchester City have perhaps made the highest-profile deal thanks to their signing of Erling Haaland.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid have bought Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco in a deal that could reach €100m in what is Spain's biggest deal to date.

There has also been a group of players who have joined teams on a permanent basis after successful loan spells. Perhaps the most pertinent example of this is Aston Villa’s capture of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, although Federico Chiesa has been signed permanently by Juventus and PSG have completed the capture of Nuno Mendes from Sporting CP.

Richarlison's club-record move from Everton to Tottenham for €70m kicked off proceedings once 1 July rolled around, the time in which those players out of contract officially became free agents.

Since then, Raphinha signed for Barcelona in a €66m deal, while Raheem Sterling switched Manchester City for Chelsea for €56m.

Defenders Jules Kounde, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez have all been on the moves, to Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United, respectively.

And more blockbuster deals are sure to follow, with Frenkie de Jong's potential exit from Barcelona likely to take more twists and turns.
