Man Utd Transfer News Today: Advanced Anderson talks as Carrick confirms signing plan
All the latest Man Utd transfer news in one place, including updates on Elliot Anderson, Kobbie Mainoo and Alphonso Davies.
Romano confirms worst Anderson fears
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Man City are in "advanced" talks with the representatives of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
The England star is one of Man Utd's priority midfield targets, and many at the club believe that he should be the Red Devils' next marquee signing. However, rivals Man City are in pole position for his signing.
This follows reports earlier this week, which described the Cityzens as the "clear frontrunners" for the 23-year-old. Nothing is decided yet, but Man Utd face an uphill battle to sign their top target.
Who should Man Utd sign?
Anderson is one of as many as eight midfield targets to have been linked with Man Utd this week, ranging from Premier League standouts to European superstars.
The Old Trafford club's search for a new midfielder is going into overdrive with the summer window approaching, and filling that position with the right profile is of utmost importance for the club's future.
So, even with Anderson likely to prove unattainable, Man Utd still have a few good options available, although some of the players associated with the club are surely fanciful. Read here who the Red Devils' next superstar midfielder should be.
Carrick confirms contract plan
Man Utd interim boss Michael Carrick has all but confirmed that contract talks with Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire are in full swing.
It follows reports on Friday that both Mainoo and Maguire were set to finalise fresh terms with the club imminently after receiving recalls to the England squad for the upcoming international break.
Mainoo is set to commit his long-term future to the club by signing a deal until 2031, while Maguire will be handed a one-year extension with the option for a further 12 months.
Man Utd's Davies interest is genuine
Man Utd have retained their interest in Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, according to journalist Christian Falk.
The Red Devils pursued a deal for the Canada international before he signed a new long-term contract last season and then suffered an ACL injury, keeping him out of action until December.
Injuries have since piled up again, and given the cost of the extension, Bayern could be tempted into a sale at the right price. At present, however, Man Utd are simply monitoring the 25-year-old.
