Manchester United are genuinely interested in Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies, according to a club insider.

In December, the Canada international returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an ACL injury last season. He has made 13 appearances since his comeback, but injuries are once again threatening to derail his campaign.

Two different issues have plagued him in recent weeks, and he is currently recovering from a hamstring strain sustained during Bayern's first leg against Atalanta in the Champions League.

Prior to his ACL tear, Davies was arguably the best left-back in world football, which saw him rewarded with a bumper new contract after plenty of back-and-forth with Bayern. Davies is tied to the club until 2030 and does not have a release clause.

At the time of the negotiations, numerous clubs were keenly following the situation. In fact, for months, it seemed almost inevitable that Davies would leave Munich to join Real Madrid or Man Utd. Things, of course, didn't quite turn out that way.

Man Utd still keen on Davies

However, it was recently claimed that Man Utd have retained their interest in the left-back. According to Bayern insider Christian Falk, there is substance to this rumour. He corroborates that the Red Devils continue to monitor the 25-year-old.

This isn't the first time it has been suggested that Man Utd could dip into the market for a new left-back. With Luke Shaw not getting any younger and Patrick Dorgu primarily playing as a winger before his injury, the Old Trafford club could use more options in that department.

Indeed, even doomed former head coach Ruben Amorim wanted a new left-sided wing-back who could act as a game-changer similar to Amad Diallo on the right flank. Davies previously showed that he can influence games offensively.

Should Man Utd get serious about their interest in the Canadian, Bayern could be tempted to sell at the right price due to the hefty cost of his contract extension and the injuries. "It is true [that] Manchester United are interested in Alphonso Davies," Falk explained.

"They were at the table when questions were being asked as to whether he would sign a new contract at Bayern Munich. They’re still monitoring this player, but he has, of course, since signed a new contract at the Allianz Arena, so it will be difficult to get him at the moment.

"But there are also discussions going on at the club [Bayern] as to whether they need a new backup player, given all the injuries Davies keeps picking up. Before, they thought they didn’t need a player on the left-hand side because Hiroki Ito can play there as well.

"However, if there were an offer on the table (and don’t forget it cost Bayern a lot of money to extend Davies), there would be a discussion. But I can say right now that there has yet to be a concrete offer from Man Utd.

"If there’s an offer, perhaps Bayern will consider it, as the injuries keep coming."
