Arsenal Transfer News Today: Ferran Torres talks as hijack chance emerges
All the latest Arsenal transfer news in one place, including updates on Ferran Torres, Bradley Barcola and Cristian Romero.
Torres contact
Arsenal have made contact with the representatives of Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, CaughtOffside claims.
Having been officially snubbed by Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr, Arsenal are considering potential alternative options. Torres is a name that has now re-emerged on Mikel Arteta's radar, and the club are keeping tabs on his situation.
Torres can play on the wing and centrally, making him an attractive option. PSG have held advanced talks over a deal, but there are conflicting reports on whether or not Barcelona will sanction his exit.
Barcola still wanted
Another potential option for Arsenal is PSG winger Bradley Barcola, as per The Independent.
The France international was a target for the Gunners earlier this summer, but their focus on Vinicius allowed Liverpool to make significant progress on personal terms with Barcola, who has bought into Andoni Iraola's project.
Although Arsenal are playing catch-up, they are still concretely interested in the 23-year-old. The fact that Liverpool are struggling to agree a fee with PSG could give the Premier League champions hope that a deal can still be hijacked.
Confirmed: Romero, Zubimendi deals unlikely
FootballTransfers can confirm that Arsenal hold an interest in Tottenham captain Cristian Romero, but we also understand that a deal is effectively impossible.
The Gunners have explored a potential move for the Argentina international, but Spurs have no intention of selling the centre-back to their bitter rivals. Romero is much more likely to end up at Atletico Madrid this summer.
Meanwhile, we can also confirm that Arsenal have no intention of sanctioning the sale of Martin Zubimendi, who has become the subject of links with Chelsea due to the mutual appreciation between him and Xabi Alonso.
Konsa a concrete option
Fabrizio Romano has corroborated that Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa is a genuine target for Arsenal.
The North London club are looking for a replacement for the injured William Saliba, who is expected to be out for several months, hence the surprising interest in Romero. Konsa is another player who has been linked, and an opening bid has reportedly already been rejected.
Nevertheless, Romano understands that Konsa remains an option. "I still expect Arsenal to sign a centre-back," he said. "They appreciate Konsa at Aston Villa, so that's another name to watch closely over the coming weeks."
