Man Utd STILL OPEN to transfer: Deadline has passed but Amorim eyes more business
Manchester United’s summer transfer business may not be over – despite the window having closed for Premier League clubs to make signings.
The Red Devils found the going hard in the transfer market this summer, despite revolutionising Ruben Amorim’s attack with three new additions: Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
Goalkeeper Senne Lammens was added on Deadline Day in a €21 million move from Royal Antwerp, but he may not be the last major transfer that United make.
Lammens’ arrival opened the door to the possibility of Andre Onana leaving Man Utd, and though the transfer window in England may be closed, the Cameroon international could make a late move.
TeamTalk reports that Man Utd have “not closed avenues” to the player’s exit, whether that is to Turkey or the Saudi Pro League.
It is added, however, that there is currently no interest from these markets in the 29-year-old.
This is set to leave Amorim and United with three keepers: Lammens, Onana and Altay Bayindir, who has played all three Premier League matches for the club this season.
Onana leaves United angry
Onana has left officials at Man Utd fuming – and not just because of his mediocre on-field performances.
The manner in which the former Inter Milan keeper returned for pre-season, both mentally and physically, has left the club perplexed. According to The Athletic, Onana reported a hamstring injury on the opening day of training left staff baffled, while the goalkeeper also reportedly demanded a pay rise in a stance that “did not go down well with Amorim”.
Onana, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €27.5m, seems set to be frozen out for much of the season and stands little chance of playing in the Manchester derby on 14 September – United’s next outing.
