Fabrizio Romano transfer news: Man Utd 'surprise proposal' as Dele Alli leaves Como
Even with the transfer window closed, moves continue to be made behind the scenes, with Fabrizio Romano detailing the biggest headlines of Wednesday.
Ademola Lookman latest: Crazy move still on?
Ademola Lookman wanted to leave Atalanta in the summer but has been unable to find the transfer he wanted.
Romano explained to YouTube what went wrong for the Nigeria attacker – and what to expect next for him.
“I’m not aware of any moves. Bayern tried for Ademola Lookman – a loan deal with a buy-option for €28m. They didn’t even get a reply. It was impossible for them to consider that bid,” Romano explained.
“Atalanta already had big money on the table from Inter at the end of July. They offered €42m plus €3m in bonuses and Atalanta said no. In the industry, the feeling was that €50m might have made him available. The best offer was from Inter.
“Lookman was an option for Tottenham before going all in for Randal Kolo-Muano, although they are totally different players.
“Unless something crazy happens in one of the markets that are still open, Lookman remains at Atalanta.”
Man Utd in for Gallagher
Manchester United’s hunt to sign a central midfielder saw them target former Chelsea star Conor Gallagher, who is now at Atletico Madrid. Ultimately, Ruben Amorim’s side were unable to get close to a deal.
“In the last 48 hours of the summer transfer window, Man Utd considered the possibility of going for Conor Gallagher. It wasn’t possible because they wanted him on a loan,” he said.
“Atletico Madrid already rejected a loan offer from Crystal Palace for Gallagher, who was one of their top targets with Yeremy Pino. They tried to take him back to the club. Atletico Madrid told Man Utd no chance to that surprise proposal.”
Why did Man Utd not sign Emi Martinez?
United also tried for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, Romano reports. Just as their attempt to sign Gallagher broke down because of their offer, their bid for the World Cup winner did not suit their Premier League rivals.
Romano explained: “It wasn’t possible for Aston Villa. They never considered a loan as a possibility. Man Utd were hoping to do a swap with Jadon Sancho – not in the same transaction.
“Dibu was ready for the move and was prepared to go. Senne Lammens was available with completely different conditions, €21m with add-ons paid over several years, and with a completely different salary compared to Emi Martinez. Man Utd believe he’s got a big future.”
Could there be a late twist for Martinez? Romano does not believe so.
“Dibu’s not going to Turkey. Galatasaray thought about this possibility on Deadline Day, but the player isn’t keen on this move. It’s World Cup season, so he wants to play in the Premier League. He had approaches from Saudi in the summer, but he wanted to stay in Europe,” the transfer insider explained.
“Dibu is seen as the starting goalkeeper at Aston Villa. They had thought about Lammens, but he ended up at Man Utd.”
Como release Dele Alli
Finally, England international Dele Alli is a free agent after being released by Como. Romano sees him as one to watch in the weeks ahead.
He explained: “Dele Alli’s contract at Como was cancelled before the end of the transfer window, so he is a free agent and can join any club. He’s available on the market. He’s keen on a new opportunity. He left Como this summer because Cesc Fabregas already has many players in that position, so Dele preferred to leave the club. We’ll see where he goes. He’s one of the names to watch now.”
