Official: Chelsea RE-SIGN player they sold this summer
Chelsea have officially announced that Ishe Samuels-Smith has rejoined the club on a permanent basis from Strasbourg, despite only joining the Ligue 1 club for €7.5 million in July.
The 19-year-old, who arrived at Chelsea from Everton’s academy in 2023, was sold to Strasbourg amid the Blues’ immense summer clear-out, however the club have now confirmed that he has returned to Stamford Bridge in a bizarre twist.
Samuels-Smith officially completed a season-long loan move to Swansea City on Transfer Deadline Day, but the Championship outfit strangely confirmed that he had arrived from Chelsea.
In their announcement of the teenager’s arrival, Swansea wrote: “Swansea City has completed the signing of defender Ishe Samuels-Smith on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, subject to international clearance....
“A multi-million pound move to Chelsea followed in the summer of 2023 and he briefly joined RC Strasbourg earlier this summer before returning to Stamford Bridge and making his loan move to SA1.”
This has been mirrored by Enzo Maresca’s side, who have revealed that Samuels-Smith has been re-signed, despite only leaving on a permanent deal earlier this summer.
In an official statement posted on the club’s website, Chelsea said: “Ishe Samuels-Smith has completed a season-long loan to Championship side Swansea City, having rejoined Chelsea from RC Strasbourg.”
BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella and transfer expert Ben Jacobs have also confirmed that Samuels-Smith rejoined Chelsea on a permanent deal before moving to Swansea.

Ishe Samuels-Smith and Ben Chilwell swap clubs
Samuels-Smith’s move back to Chelsea, and his subsequent loan transfer to Swansea, comes after the Blues sold Ben Chilwell to Strasbourg on Deadline Day.
The former England international was deemed surplus to requirements by Enzo Maresca in 2024 and after an unsuccessful loan spell at Crystal Palace, Chelsea have now officially sold him on a permanent deal to their sister club Strasbourg.
