Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Chelsea’s latest piece of transfer business as the Stamford Bridge outfit seek to finally secure a move for Xavi Simons.

Simons is the Blues’ big target in the final week of the transfer window, but the RB Leipzig attacker has been frustratingly out of reach.

In order to sign the Netherlands star, Chelsea need to make space in their squad, and they have continued this process by offloading Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund.

Romano took to X to announce: “Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund, here we go! Deal done and plan confirmed.

“Chelsea to receive fee around €25m with add-ons and heavy sell-on clause also included, key in the deal.”

Carney spent the second half of last season at BVB, playing 13 times.

The 21-year-old's move to the Bundesliga club is one of two that has been struck between the teams.

Argentine centre-back Aaron Anselmino has also agreed to join Dortmund, who kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with a disappointing 3-3 draw against St Pauli on Saturday. Unlike Carney, he is only going to Germany on loan.

Chelsea balancing the books

While Carney is part of the puzzle that will lead to Chelsea signing Simons, there are likely to be more outgoings required in order to sign the former PSG and Barcelona star.

One of these is Christopher Nkunku, who also appears destined to head back to the Bundesliga. The France international star is wanted by both Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

Chelsea have also sold defender Renato Veiga to Villarreal for a significant fee in recent days as their project to significantly cut the numbers of Enzo Maresca’s squad continues to take place.

Indeed, the Blues are not too far from balancing their books on transfers this summer, having spent €280m on new additions while completing sales worth €201m – and that’s before Carney’s Dortmund transfer is taken into account.
