Real Madrid legend offered to replace Erik ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen
Real Madrid legend Raul has been offered to Bayer Leverkusen as a replacement for sacked coach Erik ten Hag.
Leverkusen are on the lookout for a new manager after they sacked Ten Hag on Monday just weeks into the Bundesliga season.
Nicolo Schira reports that Raul has been offered to Leverkusen as they search for their next manager.
The Spaniard is a Real Madrid legend after scoring 323 goals in 741 games during a glittering playing career.
Raul to Bayer Leverkusen?
After he retired as a player, Raul moved into coaching and he enjoyed success with both Real Madrid's Under-19 team and Real Madrid Castilla.
After six years with Real Madrid Castilla, the 48-year-old left his post in May.
He is now looking for a new job and he knows German football well after spending two successful seasons at Schalke at the end of his playing career.
Raul has been linked with the Schalke managerial post in the past, as well as the main job at Real Madrid.
But Leverkusen could represent an opportunity, especially after the success current Real Madrid senior manager Xabi Alonso enjoyed at Leverkusen.
As for Ten Hag, the Dutchman only took charge of Leverkusen earlier this summer after several months out of work following his sacking by Man Utd in late October 2024.
Ten Hag succeeded Bayer legend Xabi Alonso, who had led the club to an unbeaten domestic double in 2023/24.
However, Ten Hag endured a disastrous start to life at Leverkusen, picking up just one point in their first two Bundesliga games.
They drew 3-3 at Werder Bremen at the weekend despite being 3-1 up against 10 men.
Kicker reported on Sunday that Ten Hag was on the verge of being sacked by Leverkusen.
Ten Hag had been under increasing pressure amidst reports of a rift between him and the club's management.
Leverkusen and their managing director Simon Rolfes refused to publicly back the manager after the draw at the weekend.
Kicker had already described the situation as 'critical' before the Bremen clash, and things then reached breaking point.
Ten Hag was sacked on Monday.
