Rangers are set to benefit from a €7.5 million transfer prior to the Champions League clash with Viktoria Plzen in Glasgow on Tuesday.

Russell Martin was left bitterly disappointed by his side’s 1-1 draw with Motherwell in the Premiership on Saturday, prompting the new Rangers boss to launch an astonishing attack on the commitment levels of his squad.

The Gers manager made it clear that he wants new faces in at Ibrox, but on this occasion, it is a transfer deal involving the opposition that he is set to benefit from.

On the eve of Viktoria Plzen travelling to Glasgow, the Czech side have announced that Pavel Sulc will not make the journey.

“Midfielder Pavl Sulc will no longer be on board the special flight as his transfer abroad is being finalised,” the Czech side announced via their official website.

President Adolf Sadek added: “Pavel has received the green light from the club to travel abroad. If everything goes to plan, he will transfer to a renowned European club.”

Sulc is set to join Ligue 1 side Lyon in a €7.5 million deal.

Plzen’s most important player

Sulc, a 24-year-old attacking midfielder, is regarded as Viktoria Plzen’s best player. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is €8.2m. In league play this season, he has one goal and three assists across just three games, while he played every minute as Plzen saw off Servette in the previous round.

Last season, he was a huge figure both domestically and in Europe. He scored 20 goals and created 14 more in 53 games.

The Czech side will also be without fellow midfielders Adrian Zeljkovic due to suspension and Cheick Souare because of injury, leaving them severely depleted in the middle of the park.

Rangers will, therefore, benefit enormously from Plzen’s decision to sell the player as they aim to build on their fine win over Panathinaikos in qualifying round two.
