Chelsea Transfer News Today: Palmer sale verdict as Man Utd pounce on 'best in the world'
All the latest Chelsea transfer news in one place, including updates on Cole Palmer, Andrey Santos and Liam Delap.
Exclusive: Waddle gives Palmer verdict
Former England international Chris Waddle has exclusively shared his thoughts on Cole Palmer with FootballTransfers.
The Chelsea superstar has been linked with a potential move to Man Utd, as he is said to be frustrated with his situation at Stamford Bridge and keen to return to the Northwest. "I like Cole Palmer and Man Utd would be a great fit," Waddle said.
"I think he's a Man Utd fan, so I'm sure he'd like to go back to Manchester. It looks like a great fit for him, but you've got Bruno Fernandes and you've got Matheus Cunha, so will he get stuck in a position where you think he's not getting the best out of him?"
How Santos could end up at Man Utd
In addition to Palmer, Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos is also being associated with a potential move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils explored a move for the Brazil international during talks over Alejandro Garnacho last summer, and they remain interested in a player dubbed the "best in the world" during his time at Strasbourg.
CaughtOffside claims that Chelsea could be compelled to sell the talented midfielder if they face potential issues with regard to Premier League and UEFA financial regulations.
Chelsea interested in Woltemade
Chelsea are interested in struggling Newcastle forward Nick Woltemade, according to Simon Phillips.
The Germany international's form has fallen off a cliff after a promising start to life at St. James' Park, but the Blues are nevertheless interested in a potential deal for him.
This comes amid reports that Newcastle could reignite their interest in Liam Delap, who snubbed the Magpies to move to Chelsea last summer. Should an approach for Delap be made, Chelsea could explore a deal for Woltemade.
Chelsea make Araujo contact
Chelsea have made contact with the camp of Sporting CP full-back Maxi Araujo, Sport Witness reports.
Portuguese media revealed the Blues' interest in the Uruguay international last week, and it is now being claimed that initial discussions over a potential move have been held.
Tottenham have also definitely been in touch with Araujo, while there is rumoured interest from several other Premier League sides as well. So far, no talks have been held with Sporting over a summer deal.
Fernandez dismisses Real Madrid rumours
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has addressed the speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid after reporting for international duty with Argentina.
The Blues star is reportedly frustrated with the club's lack of competitiveness in the Champions League and Premier League, resulting in a desire to leave this summer. A move to Spain is said to appeal to Fernandez, but he insists that there is no contact with Real Madrid.
"No, honestly, nothing," he said. "Zero talks. Now we're focused on Chelsea and what's left of the last few games this season, and then we'll see after the World Cup."
Rosenior sack latest
Liam Rosenior is under growing pressure at Chelsea and could be sacked if he fails to get them into next season's Champions League, as per Nicolo Schira.
Club bosses have been left underwhelmed by his impact so far, and he has faced criticism - including from former teammates - for his performative demeanour and public persona. "He’s unrecognisable to the player and the person I knew," ex-Hull player Kevin Kilbane said. "It’s like he’s swallowed a psychologist’s manual or a sporting mentor’s memoir. To me, everything he says is waffle, drivel, nothing.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has described Chelsea's decision to hire the inexperienced coach as "madness," saying: "If Arne Slot got the sack at Liverpool this week, or if Eddie Howe left Newcastle, would Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior have got one of those two jobs?
"I'll go one further: would he even get an interview? It's madness."
