Exclusive: Cole Palmer receives Man Utd transfer verdict
Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer has been told that a move to Manchester United would be a “great fit” amid rumours that he could secure a blockbuster summer transfer to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old has endured an injury-hit campaign at Stamford Bridge and despite scoring 10 goals in 25 games across all competitions so far this season, five of his strikes have come from the penalty spot and he has only registered three assists.
Palmer was unable to prevent an 8-2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last-16 and while his current contract at Chelsea isn’t due to expire until 2033, a west London exit could potentially be on the cards this summer.
FootballTransfers understands that Palmer is viewed as a potential replacement for Bruno Fernandes by the Man Utd hierarchy, although his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €96.7 million and the Red Devils may therefore struggle to tempt Chelsea into a sale.
Former England international Chris Waddle believes that Palmer would be an excellent signing for Man Utd, if a deal can be finalised, however the 23-year-old has been warned that he may be unable to usurp Bruno Fernandes or Matheus Cunha for a starting berth at Old Trafford.
Cole Palmer transfer verdict
“Cole Palmer has spells where he looks the part, where he looks the man. But, he’s not been very consistent over the last two or three months,” Waddle admitted to FootballTransfers on behalf of 10bet.
“The team's not playing very consistently, Chelsea are very up and down, and that's shown in his form as well. It's been up and down.
“I like Cole Palmer and Man Utd would be a great fit. I think he's a Man Utd fan so I'm sure he'd like to go back to Manchester. It looks like a great fit for him, but you've got Bruno Fernandes and you've got Matheus Cunha, so will he get stuck in a position where you think he's not getting the best out of him?
“He's a very talented footballer. I like watching him play, but he seems to have come off the boil and for England, it looks like he's going to have to come off the bench. I can see why Man Utd are interested because we know he has got the ability, but it's just getting that consistency.”
