Rangers receive official transfer update from €9m star

Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin has confirmed that he wanted to leave the club during the recent summer transfer window following significant interest from multiple teams across Europe.

The Belgium international was expected to leave Ibrox following a string of eye-catching appearances at the 2026 World Cup, but a deal never materialised and he was forced to remain with Derek McInnes’ side until at least January.

Raskin was heavily linked with a move to Super Lig giants Besiktas, while Bologna, Real Betis and Villarreal were also interested in signing the 25-year-old, who has been one of Rangers’ highest-performing players since his arrival at the club in January 2023.

He was tipped to leave the club throughout the entire summer window and his impressive form at the World Cup was expected to increase his likelihood of an exit, however a deal ultimately failed to be agreed with Rangers.

Raskin has subsequently been included in the starting XI in each of Rangers’ last five matches across all competitions and while he was eager to depart the club in search of a new opportunity over the summer, the midfielder has confirmed that he is not angry about his failed exit.

However, he is keen to explore a possible departure in 2027 if the right opportunity emerges.

“It is a bit of a disappointment, because I was mentally ready to leave,” Raskin confirmed to Sporza while on international duty with Belgium during the September break.

“But that’s football, and it’s not a big deal. There are many factors and off-field issues to consider when it comes to a transfer.

“Ultimately, I’m not in a position where I absolutely have to leave. Rangers is a good club; I’m playing regularly, we have a great squad this year, and we’re achieving good things.”

Despite this, Raskin is still expected to pursue a transfer next year. “If you ask me whether I wanted to take the next step and keep progressing, I’d say ‘yes’,” he added.

Raskin will have just one year remaining on his contract at Rangers when the 2027 summer window opens, and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €9.3 million.
