Danny Rohl teases big Rangers summer window: 'Very clear what we want!'
Rangers boss Danny Rohl has revealed that preparations for the summer are now in full swing - and he's excited about what the future holds.
The German, fresh off a 4-1 beatdown of Aberdeen that saw the Ibrox outfit climb above Celtic into second in the table, has managed to steady the ship after Russell Martin's disastrous start to the season.
Rohl has made Rangers genuine challengers for the title this season, and they currently find themselves just three points off leaders Hearts. There is still every chance that his men ruin the Tynecastle side's fairytale campaign.
It would be a major achievement for the 36-year-old, considering just how dysfunctional Rangers were under Martin. This season won't be defined by silverware, however.
It is clear that Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers will continue to back Rohl even if the Gers were to finish as runners-up to this impressive Hearts side. They already showed in January that they are ready to invest in the squad to help Rohl undo the damage of the brief Martin era.
Rangers looking forward to ambitious summer
Four players were signed in the winter to the tune of €13.95 million, which included Rangers paying a remarkable €5.5m for German third-tier striker Ryan Naderi after a lengthy saga.
The spending will continue after this season. Looking ahead to the summer, Rohl has revealed that Rangers have a lucid plan of what they want to do when the transfer window opens.
"You can be convinced that we started this week to prepare for the summer," he said. "We are in a good position, we are very clear what we want. It’s also helpful now that we have the idea of how I want to play football."
So far, results have had to take precedence over good football, but Rohl is likely to move away from sledgehammer-ball in preseason to implement a somewhat more sophisticated playing philosophy, glimpses of which were evident against Aberdeen.
To that end, he revealed last week that he would like to keep Tottenham loanee Mikey Moore around for another season. While a lot will depend on Spurs, staying at Rangers and playing in Europe could be more attractive to the youngster than potentially suiting up in the Championship.
Naderi will also have a big role going forward. While he has yet to prove a real threat in front of the goal, he showed against the Dons that he is much more than just a target man. He has great feet and, when on form, is excellent at linking the play.
The season is far from over, so Rohl can't get carried away, but the future does look bright for the Ibrox club.
