Man Utd on red alert as €93m-rated target makes major decision over future

Alex Scott has turned down new contract "offers" from Bournemouth amid interest from Manchester United, according to The Athletic.

The 22-year-old is one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe after sparkling for Bournemouth last season.

Scott played a key role in helping the Cherries qualify for the UEFA Europa League by finishing sixth in the Premier League in 2025-26.

Such has been Scott's form in the middle of the park that United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been credited with an interest in his services.

BBC Sport reported in June that Bournemouth have told suitors they have no interest in selling Scott after Arsenal made an enquiry.

The same publication claims Marco Rose’s side value Scott at €93million (£80m) and want him to sign a new deal.

BBC Sport understands Bournemouth are even prepared to include a release clause in a prospective new contract.

The south-coast club have previous form in this regard, having included release clauses in contracts that were signed by Dean Huijsen and Antoine Semenyo, which were later activated by Real Madrid and Manchester City respectively.

However, The Athletic are now claiming Scott has turned down contract “offers” from Bournemouth, with his current terms set to expire in 2028.

United are considering tabling an offer to sign Scott

The same outlet claims United are huge admirers of Scott and are continuing to weigh up an offer to sign him.

Widespread reports understand the Red Devils are prioritising strengthening their midfield this summer.

United were interested in signing Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes before their respective moves to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur last week.

BBC Sport understands United are looking to sign up to two new midfielders - irrespective of Ederson’s imminent arrival from Atalanta.

The same publication claims Ederson is set to undergo a medical with United after Brazil were eliminated from the World Cup on Sunday.

BBC Sport also claims United expect Aurelien Tchouameni to stay at Real Madrid this summer, though the club admire the France star.

United have also cooled their interest in Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, according to BBC Sport, while Felix Nmecha of Borussia Dortmund is not a key target.

An alternative report in The Guardian understands United are weighing up an offer for Chelsea’s €58m-rated (£50m) Andrey Santos.

The news comes after BBC Sport claimed Chelsea are not actively looking to sell the 22-year-old, but they may consider doing so if a sizeable offer arrives.

Various sources claim Chelsea need to offload players in order to raise funds to back Xabi Alonso in the transfer market.

Chelsea announced a staggering pre-tax loss (€306.2m/£262.4million) for the year ending June 30 2025 in April of this year - the largest ever recorded by a Premier League club.
