Chelsea Transfer News Today: Deal announced as talks for €50m wonderkid confirmed
All the latest Chelsea transfer news in one place, including updates on Karim Coulibaly, Tyrique George and Pep Chavarria.
Chelsea open Coulibaly talks
Chelsea have begun exploring a deal for Werder Bremen centre-back Karim Coulibaly, TEAMtalk claims.
The 19-year-old is coming off a breakout Bundesliga season and is expected to be sold by Bremen for a club-record €50 million sum this summer. Coulibaly has been linked with numerous European heavyweights in recent months.
Chelsea have now opened talks in a bid to beat his other suitors to the punch. Man Utd and PSG are also admirers of the defender, and reports in Germany have suggested that the teenager dreams of playing for the Parisians.
George sold to Everton
Everton have officially announced the signing of Chelsea attacker Tyrique George.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with the Toffees, making 11 appearances. George did not record a goal contribution, but Everton have nevertheless made his move permanent in a deal worth up to €28m.
Everton let their original purchase option expire because they were keen to get a different deal. They ultimately managed to achieve this, but they had to give up a 15% sell-on clause to get Chelsea to agree.
Chavarria interest sparks crisis
Rayo Vallecano are facing a left-back "crisis" because of Chelsea's interest in Pep Chavarria, as per AS.
The Madrid-based club have already lost one left back this summer, and selling Chavarria would leave them without a recognised option for that position. Unsurprisingly, then, they are digging their heels in.
The same outlet claimed last week that Rayo are pointing to the 28-year-old's €50m release clause, which seems an excessive fee for the 28-year-old. Chelsea will likely have to wait for the LaLiga side to source a replacement before they can complete a deal for Chavarria.
Araujo deal difficult
Signing Maxi Araujo from Sporting CP will prove difficult this summer, according to his agent.
Like Chavarria, the Uruguay international is also a left-back/wing-back target for Chelsea. Araujo impressed in Portugal last season and at the World Cup, but Sporting CP are under no obligation to sell.
"When a player stands out at Sporting, it’s not easy to take him away from there," agent Martin Rodriguez Nader told El Espectador Deportes. "That’s the case with Maxi Araujo. Sporting have a lot of money, and they don’t sell cheaply."
