Will Arteta sell? Arsenal braced for January bids for €62m star
Arsenal winger Noni Madueke is likely to receive approaches from suitors in January, giving Mikel Arteta a major decision to make.
The 24-year-old has lost his place in the England squad after a disappointing start to the season at club level. Madueke has so far racked up fewer than 200 minutes of action, with Arteta heavily relying on Bukayo Saka on the right flank.
The 24-year-old started in the Community Shield and Carabao Cup, where he scored his only goal of the season, but his two appearances in the Premier League came off the bench. He was an unused substitute in the other three matches.
With minutes at a premium, Madueke's future is being put under the microscope. Rumours over his future have been swirling for several weeks now amid a feeling that he could push to leave next year in search of regular game time.
Atletico Madrid and Juventus have both been credited with a concrete interest in the tricky winger, and The Telegraph has now confirmed that they are indeed among his most persistent suitors. More admirers are expected to come forward if his situation does not change in the next few weeks.
January offers for Madueke
While it is too early to make any kind of predictions about what might happen with Madueke in 2027, it is clear that suitors will make enquiries and offers for him in January if he keeps struggling for minutes.
Madueke is also being monitored by interested clubs, such as Atleti and Juve, and they are "determining whether any parties would look at a loan move." Evidently, they are keen on a try-before-you-buy formula.
Whether Arsenal would agree to this is unclear at this early stage, although there appears to be little sense in this unless Madueke actively starts pushing to leave the club mid-season.
The Gunners are already short of wide options, and their only recognised left-winger Christos Tzolis is currently injured. Allowing Madueke to leave without bringing in multiple reinforcements - which is unlikely in January- would be negligent.
The 24-year-old, now in his second season in North London after joining from Chelsea for €56 million last summer, has made 48 appearances for Arsenal. However, he has yet to crack the 2,500-minute mark and has only contributed nine goals and four assists.
He is firmly behind Saka in the pecking order, and the emergence of Max Dowman as an increasingly credible option for the first team is ramping up the pressure to perform.
Madueke's Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €62m, hence the reluctance from clubs like Atleti and Juventus to make a permanent move, at least in January. Signing him would be expensive despite his struggles.
Arteta will have to weigh the pros and cons of allowing Madueke to leave in January. It could leave him shorthanded out wide, but it may protect the player's value more so than if he were to sit on the bench until the summer.
With Arsenal likely to need sales in 2027 in order to steer clear of UEFA Squad Cost Ratio breaches, this will be a major consideration and a complicating factor in the decision-making process.
