Ruben Amorim starts Man Utd signing domino with €62m raid
Manchester United centre-back Leny Yoro has emerged as a target for AC Milan, and a deal could enable the Red Devils to make a signing of their own.
The 20-year-old has endured a difficult two years at Old Trafford. Yoro was one of the biggest talents in Ligue 1 at Lille, and Man Utd appeared to pull off a coup when they beat PSG to his signing.
However, there were some major reservations over this deal at the time. The Red Devils agreed to shell out an eye-watering €62 million on the teenage prospect, which was seen by many as a risk.
Indeed, PSG were unwilling to match Man Utd's bid because of reservations over Yoro's fitness. They were clearly onto something, as Yoro immediately suffered a nasty injury that sidelined him for months. He has been playing catch-up ever since.
Despite his huge talent, the youngster has failed to nail down a regular starting spot at Man Utd. Although he made 32 Premier League appearances last season, he only played from the beginning 18 times and racked up fewer than 2,000 minutes of action.
Yoro could leave Man Utd in 2027
It's been even more difficult for him this term. The 20-year-old has only played four times across all competitions, starting only against Sabah in the Champions League and Brighton in the Carabao Cup.
Despite amassing just 22 minutes in the Premier League, Yoro was called up for Zinedine Zidane's first-ever senior French squad. However, he has exclusively been an unused substitute under the new manager so far.
Unsurprisingly, then, Yoro's future is increasingly in the spotlight. Rumours over a potential exit in 2027 have been gathering pace in recent days, and Man Utd would likely be willing to listen to suitable offers.
Offloading Yoro for a handsome fee would enable Man Utd to bring in a new centre-back, which is believed to be one of the positions in which they are keen to strengthen next year. Links with Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite and Stuttgart talent Finn Jeltsch are no coincidence.
According to Calciomercato, Yoro's former Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim could offer him an escape route out of England, with the help of superagent Jorge Mendes, who handles the defender's affairs.
Given Yoro's lack of action this season, Mendes is sounding out possible transfer opportunities, and his compatriot at AC Milan is keen on a reunion with the talented youngster.
Yoro's best spell at Man Utd came during the 41-year-old's doomed tenure at Old Trafford. The centre-back made 53 appearances under Amorim, playing just shy of 3,200 minutes and starting more than half of the Premier League games in which he featured.
Although Yoro would command a hefty fee - his current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €64.2m - Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has already shown that he is willing to back Amorim. The Rossoneri obliterated their club record by spending €74m on Goncalo Ramos this summer.
With Yoro's fortunes at Man Utd unlikely to change, Mendes could start "pushing" for an exit next year. Amorim wants another high-profile defender at Milan, so a reunion with his former Red Devils talent holds appeal.
