Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is interested in a shock reunion with Scott McTominay, which could inadvertently help Manchester United sign the ideal replacement for Bruno Fernandes.

McTominay, 29, was handed his first-team debut by Mourinho during his time as Red Devils boss and the new Los Blancos head coach is reportedly eager to sign the Napoli midfielder next year.

The Scotland international has just over 18 months remaining on his current deal at Napoli and it’s understood that he may be open to finalising a transfer next summer amid a delay in contract extension talks and growing interest from several top European clubs.

Man Utd have previously been linked with re-signing the midfielder, while Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb report that Real Madrid have now joined the race to secure McTominay’s signature in 2027.

It’s claimed that Los Blancos have lodged an enquiry with the Scotland star’s representatives ahead of a potential bid, although it remains to be seen if McTominay is open to joining the 15-time Champions League winners.

Arda Guler to Man Utd?

If Real Madrid are able to finalise a deal for McTominay, it would raise serious questions over the long-term future of Turkey starlet Arda Guler, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) just shy of €110 million.

The 21-year-old has cemented his place as a key part of the Real Madrid squad over the past 12 months, however he remains behind Jude Bellingham in the pecking order at the Bernabeu, and his place would be threatened further if McTominay arrives.

Guler still has over two-and-a-half years remaining on his current Los Blancos deal, but although he is rated extremely highly by the club’s hierarchy, a move for McTominay could open the door for potential suitors.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both previously been credited with strong interest in the Turkey attacking midfielder, and data analytics experts SciSports believe he would be an excellent signing for the latter.

Bryan Mbeumo and Fernandes are the only Man Utd players with a higher SciSkill rating than Guler (111.0) and his potential SciSkill rating of 138.4 is better than anyone in the current Red Devils squad.

At 21 years old with huge potential, Guler would be the perfect long-term replacement for Fernandes, and Mourinho could help Man Utd complete a deal if he is able to finalise a transfer for McTominay.
