Man Utd DEVASTATED as Premier League rivals plot Scott McTominay signing
Manchester United could soon be haunted by a former fan favourite as Tottenham have taken a keen interest in Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, according to a report.
The Scotland international has been a man reborn since leaving Old Trafford, continuing a frankly shocking trend of players thriving after leaving turmoil-stricken Man Utd.
Last season, McTominay was crucial as Napoli won the Scudetto. The 28-year-old was named Serie A's Player of the Season and subsequently made it into the top 20 of this year's Ballon d'Or ranking, finishing 18th.
So far this term, the Man Utd academy graduate's impact has been somewhat understated due to the new arrival of Kevin de Bruyne, who is occupying the spaces McTominay filled last season.
The Belgian's freak injury at the weekend - suffering a serious hamstring tear while scoring a penalty - could now see McTominay move back into the spotlight in Naples.
Tottenham interested in McTominay
McTominay's exploits in Serie A haven't gone unnoticed back in England, and TEAMtalk claims that Tottenham are interested in helping the Scotsman return to the Premier League.
It is asserted that, in addition to Spurs, Newcastle and Barcelona have also taken a liking to the former Man Utd star. However, Napoli naturally do not want to lose him.
With De Bruyne potentially sidelined long-term and Frank Anguissa set to head to the Africa Cup of Nations in December, the reigning Serie A champions want to strengthen their midfield, ideally with Man Utd wantaway Kobbie Mainoo, not weaken it further.
A January transfer is 'categorically ruled out,' but the report implies that McTominay could be open to joining 'the right project' in the summer. He is still under contract at Napoli until 2028.
McTominay is loving life in Naples and became an instant fan favourite when he arrived last year. In 10 games this season, the box-crashing midfielder has scored a respectable four goals.
