Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is considering appointing himself as interim manager following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

That is according to a sensational report from respected English journalist Steve Brown, who claims on X that the Greek boss may make himself caretaker manager until he finds a permanentlt replacement for Postecoglou.

Postecoglou was sacked on Saturday after just 39 days in charge at Forest following the 3-0 home defeat by Chelsea in the early Premier League match.

The ex-Tottenham manager only oversaw eight games, six of them losses and none of them victories.

Who will replace Postecoglou?

The City Ground outfit are in turmoil as Marinakis has now sacked two permanent managers within less than two months.

After the unpopular but inevitable dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo, Postecoglou became the second Forest manager dismissed this season.

The sacking was announced soon after the 3-0 loss to Chelsea that leaves Forest in the relegation zone.

Sensationally, according to Brown, Marinakis may even take charge of the next game himself against Porto in the Europa League.

Marinakis has become famous and infamous throughout his life and career in football for making big, bold and at times controversial decisions, and this would be another.

Sean Dyche is the favourite with the bookmakers to replace Postecoglou permanently.

Roberto Mancini is second favourite. David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Forest have already been in contact with the former Man City manager, who has been out of a job since leaving his role in charge of the Saudi national team in late 2024.

Recent reports claimed that Mancini had informed friends that he is in contention to replace Ruben Amorim, but with the Portuguese still backed by the club hierarchy, it seems that the Italian could instead be on his way to Nottingham.

According to reports in Brazil, Forest could also look to make a wildcard appointment by trying to poach Abel Ferreira from Palmeiras. According to ESPN Brazil, the Nottingham club already held talks with the Portuguese after the sacking of Nuno.

Forest are said to remain interested in the two-time Brazilian champion and two-time Copa Libertadores winner, but it is unclear if Ferreira would be willing to leave while battling for trophies on multiple fronts with Palmeiras.

The 46-year-old, who nurtured Chelsea superstar Estevao, seems to be fully committed to the Brazilian giants, and local outlets are reporting that planning for the 2026 season with president Leila Pereira is already in full swing.

Other managers heavily linked are Marco Silva, Rafa Benitez and Mauricio Pochettino.
