Mikel Arteta agrees to sell €50m Arsenal star in January
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed to let striker Gabriel Jesus leave in January, according to Brazilian media.
The 28-year-old has seen his importance to the Gunners diminish drastically since his celebrated €52.2 million arrival in 2022. Once a key player for Arteta, Jesus has struggled with injuries and subsequently lost his place first to Kai Havertz, then to Viktor Gyokeres.
Indeed, while Arsenal have been adamant that the Brazil international remains a valued member of the squad, the arrival of Gyokeres in the summer signalled that the end of his stint in North London is approaching.
Jesus has been repeatedly linked with a departure over the past 12 to 18 months. He has been associated with a return to formative club Palmeiras, whose president, Leila Pereira, admitted last year that she looked into signing him. She also recently insisted that he would "come back home soon."
However, according to ESPN Brasil reporters Andre Hernan and Bruno Andrade, Jesus is not yet looking to return to Serie A, where he has also been the subject of links to Flamengo.
Jesus to leave Arsenal but stay in Europe
The journalists have confirmed reports that Jesus could leave Arsenal in January after recovering from his ACL injury, but they believe that the 28-year-old still feels he has unfinished business in Europe.
"One topic that is always on the agenda of Brazilian football clubs is the possible return of Gabriel Jesus," Hernan said. "But he is a player who is much more focused on staying in Europe than returning to Brazil."
Andrade added: "Just over a month ago, when Arsenal signed Gyokeres, the club sent a message to Gabriel Jesus' camp that there was a chance he could leave.
"Either make a sale or run the risk of him leaving for free [in 2027]. Both manager Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are open to a deal for Gabriel Jesus in the next window."
