Arsenal star told to 'come home' by club president
Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has been told to “come home” by Palmeiras president Leila Pereira.
The 28-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in January and although he has only just returned to team training, Palmeiras have identified him as a top target for the winter transfer window.
Palmeiras made Barcelona striker Vitor Roque the most expensive signing in Brazilian football history earlier this year, however they are still eager to bolster their attacking roster, and Jesus has been placed at the top of their transfer wishlist.
Jesus left the Brazilian club to join Man City for €32 million in January 2017 and Pereira has now confirmed her desire to bring the striker back to the club next year.
When asked to choose between Jesus and Cruzeiro striker Gabriel Barbosa, Pereira told journalist Paloma Tocci (via The Evening Standard): “Of course Gabriel Jesus, and I’ll say more. Soon you’re coming back home, Gabriel! One day you’ll return.”
Gabriel Jesus to leave Arsenal?
Jesus only has two years remaining on his current contract at Arsenal, and the summer arrival of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP has cast fresh doubt over his long-term future with the north London giants.
The Sweden superstar has immediately become an important player at the Emirates Stadium, and the presence of Kai Havertz is also expected to limit Jesus’ first-team involvement when he returns from injury.
Furthermore, as exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers last month, Jesus is ready to leave Arsenal in January in order to boost his chances of being selected for the 2026 World Cup.
We have been informed that Everton and West Ham United are both monitoring his situation at Arsenal, although Jesus is also exploring the possibility of returning to his native Brazil during the winter transfer window.
