Man Utd receive Adam Wharton transfer confirmation
Crystal Palace co-owner Steve Parish has confirmed that Adam Wharton has aspirations of playing Champions League football at some point in his career.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise since arriving at Selhurst Park in January 2024 and he has been heavily linked with a number of top Premier League clubs in recent weeks.
Chelsea and Liverpool are both long-term admirers of the Englishman, while The Mirror report that Manchester United are ready to submit a €69 million (£60m) offer for the Crystal Palace star next year.
The Red Devils failed to land top target Carlos Baleba over the summer and they appear to have turned their attention to finalising a deal for Wharton due to Brighton & Hove Albion’s asking price of in excess of €115m (£100m).
Wharton, who was recently the recipient of immense praise from Everton loanee Jack Grealish, appears content at Crystal Palace for the time being, but Parish has admitted that a departure could potentially be on the cards in the future.
“I think Adam at some point will want to play either in the Champions League with us, if we can make that happen, or probably with another club,” Parish told talkSPORT.
“He's an extraordinary talent. I think right now, and I can't speak for Adam, but I think he's focused on his time at Crystal Palace.
“He had a broken season last season with the groin issues that he had that a lot of young players get.
“I think this season he's completely focused on putting the games in, getting in the England squad, being a regular for us, and making sure that he can show that Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday. It's a difficult programme for us right now.
“I think he's very committed to the club. I don't know where all this stuff comes from.”
Adam Wharton to join Man Utd?
When asked about rumours of a possible bid from Man Utd, Parish added: “If Man Utd want Adam Wharton, that's nothing surprising really about that.
“The fact of the matter is he's got a long contract to run. There's no pressure on us to do it, and I don't think there's any real pressure from the player either.”
Wharton, who has already made 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season, still has over three-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at Crystal Palace, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €55.7m.
