Mane talks held

Man Utd held talks with Wolves wonderkid Mateus Mane in the summer transfer window, TEAMtalk claims.

The 18-year-old was one of the few positives of Wolves' dire previous season, which ended in relegation to the Championship. Man Utd made contact over a potential move off the back of his breakout campaign.

However, Mane was not pushing to leave Wolves, who insisted that he was not for sale. The youngster wants to get a full season of regular football under his belt before taking the next step.

Dorgu "like a new signing"

Man Utd winger Patrick Dorgu is "like a new signing," according to head coach Michael Carrick.

Responding to suggestions that Dorgu could revert to a left-back role after Man Utd failed to sign cover for Luke Shaw, Carrick concurred and added that the Denmark international is having a big impact after overcoming his injury problems.

"He can certainly play there," Carrick said. "He has done, without doubt. I'm not sitting here saying he can't do that. It's just the way we've been [playing him on the wing] since I've been here.

"He actually has been injured, unfortunately, for some time. You could almost argue that he played three or four times for us last season, so for me, he's almost like a new player, you know, to have, and it's almost like a new signing in some ways because he's added so much to the group."

Zirkzee "happy" despite Everton rejection

Carrick also claimed that Joshua Zirkzee is "happy" at Man Utd after the club denied him the chance to join Everton on Deadline Day.

The Netherlands international was the subject of a late enquiry from the Toffees after Folarin Balogun allegedly failed his medical, but Man Utd blocked the move as they did not want to allow Zirkzee to leave without having a replacement lined up.

"For sure Josh is important, for the team, for the squad depth," Carrick explained. "Josh is happy here, and I have a really good relationship with Josh.

"He wants to play more than he has, but that is good, healthy competition. We have a lot of games coming up, we have a shorter period between games. Josh can do some really top things, I have seen it myself."

Hojlund on failed "dream" move

Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund insists that he has "no regrets" over his disappointing spell at Man Utd.

The Denmark international was deemed surplus to requirements by Ruben Amorim last summer and sent on loan to Napoli, who subsequently purchased him permanently when they qualified for the Champions League.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Hojlund called Man Utd his "dream" club but added that he has come to terms with the fact that it didn't work out. "My first year was a success, the second was not," he said.

"But I played in the Europa League final. If we had won, it would have been a different story. That’s football. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it goes badly, but I’m very happy to have played for the club I dreamed of as a child."
