The Blues have implemented a revolutionary transfer strategy since the arrival of BlueCo as their new owners in 2022 and although academy stars have been sold for pure profit on a number of occasions over the past few years, Chelsea are still eager to develop players at their Cobham facility.

Shumaira Mheuka, for example, joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion as a 14-year-old and has now made several first-team appearances, and the club have added Riley Ebho, Jashayde Greenwood and Justin Osagie to their academy from fellow English teams.

A club statement read: “Chelsea is pleased to confirm the addition of two new players to our Under-18s after Riley Ebho and Jashayde Greenwood signed scholarship terms with the Blues…

“Ebho is a talented right-back who joins Chelsea from West Ham United. The 16-year-old impressed last season, consistently featuring for West Ham’s Under-18s, despite still being a schoolboy…

“Centre-forward Greenwood has also been added to our Under-18s squad, arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has already competed in the Under-18 Premier League, showing maturity and physicality beyond his years while scoring once in seven appearances, as well as representing England across various youth levels.

“In other Academy news, centre-back Justin Osagie has joined Chelsea Under-21s from Peterborough United. His first involvement with Calum McFarlane’s team came when he was named on the bench for the EFL Trophy match against Northampton Town.”

How have Chelsea’s academy teams performed this season?

Chelsea’s U18 side are currently second in the Premier League south division, having picked up 13 points from their opening five matches.

They are one point behind league leaders Arsenal, however they have a game in hand on the Gunners and could go top on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Chelsea U21s are sixth in the Premier League 2. They have picked up four wins and two defeats from their first six league games, while they are currently bottom of their EFL Trophy group.
