Mbappe endorsed Kone move

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe advised Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso to pursue AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone, Foot Mercato claims.

Alonso phoned his former Real Madrid star to get information on his France teammate, and Mbappe reportedly gave a glowing report of Kone. However, it ended up meaning very little as Chelsea failed to get a deal over the line.

Roma did not want to sell Kone and also did not have enough time to source an adequate replacement, with Chelsea only opening talks over the midfielder in the final days of the window. Roma have denied reports that the Blues made a late bid for the Frenchman.

Estevao growing frustrated

Chelsea attacker Estevao is growing increasingly concerned about his role under Xabi Alonso, ESPN Brasil writes.

When he joined the club, he was promised that he would eventually be used in his favoured No.10 role. However, the arrival of Alonso and the signing of Morgan Rogers have seemingly changed his prospects of being played in that position.

He has only featured sparingly so far under the new manager and fears that he may have to compete with Pedro Neto and Malo Gusto for a wing-back spot. He doesn't want to leave just yet, but he may be forced to reconsider his future in January if the situation doesn't change.

Fernandez sale was "for the best"

Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso insists that the last-minute sale of Enzo Fernandez to Man City was "best for the team."

After a months-long saga, an agreement with the Cityzens was finally reached in the dying embers of Deadline Day, with Fernandez pushing to reunite with his former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca. He fetched a joint Premier League record €145 million.

"We take all the decisions together," Alonso said when asked about the Argentine. "We work together with everything, big decisions, small ones. The last goal is ultimately to be the best for the team. We want to build a good spirit, a good team.

"In football, many things happen. You need to be prepared for everything. We had conversations with Enzo, but with respect. We are thankful for what he has done for the club. But we need to move on."

Chelsea too big a step for Bergvall

Former Sweden international Magnus Eriksson believes that it was for the best that Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall did not end up at Chelsea this summer.

The 20-year-old was one of the names being considered by the Blues after he reportedly requested to leave Spurs amid concerns over his game time following the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

However, after a few days of pre-season under Roberto de Zerbi, he had a change of heart and was happy to stay. This was the right decision, according to Eriksson.

"Where he is today, it is about continuity and playing time," Eriksson explained. "Going to a better team than Tottenham would not benefit him."
