When does the 2026 January transfer window open and close?
The countdown to the 2026 January transfer window is on and teams across world football will already be beginning to finalise their plans.
Premier League clubs unsurprisingly dominated the spending charts during the 2025 summer transfer window, and teams in the English top flight are expected to dip back into the market yet again in January.
In January 2025, Manchester City spent a whopping €218 million on Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Juma Bah during the winter window in a bid to save a disappointing campaign under Pep Guardiola. Meanwhile, Jhon Duran joined Al-Nassr for €77m, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia moved from Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of €70m, and RB Leipzig paid €50m to sign Xavi Simons permanently.
This year, Manchester United are expected to pursue a deal for Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton, while Chelsea will likely sign at least one new player if recent history suggests anything.
The Blues will also attempt to offload unwanted duo Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi when the January window officially opens.
