Chelsea target insane Vinicius Jr deal after El Clasico meltdown
Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs keeping close tabs on Vinicius Junior amid rumours that he could leave Real Madrid next year.
The 25-year-old has been heavily tipped to depart the Santiago Bernabeu for Saudi Arabia in 2026 and his actions during Los Blancos’ 2-1 win over Barcelona on Sunday have reignited reports that an exit is on the cards.
Vinicius clashed with head coach Xabi Alonso after his substitution in the 72nd minute and it has been rumoured that he told the Spaniard: “Me, it's always me, I'm leaving the team, it's better that I go,” following his withdrawal.
He then confronted Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal following the full-time whistle, and widespread reports have suggested that Vinicius’ strained relationship with Alonso could lead to a Real Madrid departure.
While a transfer to the Saudi Pro League had been expected to be the Brazilian’s next move, transfer reporter Graeme Bailey has claimed that Vinicius doesn’t actually want to join a club in the Middle East.
With an exit on the cards, Bailey has revealed that Vinicius has instead emerged as an option on Chelsea’s transfer radar ahead of next year.
The Blues have been eager to reduce their bloated wage bill over the past few seasons, but co-owner Todd Boehly may reportedly be tempted to bring Vinicius to west London due to the potential “commercial gains” of the transfer.
Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho both arrived to bolster Enzo Maresca’s options on the left flank this summer, however Vinicius is a bonafide superstar and he would undoubtedly replace the duo in Chelsea’s preferred XI if a deal goes through.
Vinicius Jr issues apology
He posted on a title="X" href="https://x.com/vinijr/status/1983508825849114975" target="_blank">X: “Today I want to apologise to all Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted during the El Clasico. Just as I have already done in person during today's training session, I also want to apologise once again to my team-mates, the club and the president.
“Sometimes my passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive spirit comes from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents. I promise to keep fighting every second for the good of Real Madrid just as I have done since my very first day.”
Vinicius Jr’s current contract at Real Madrid is due to expire in 2027 and, as exclusively revealed by The Transfers Podcast in March, Los Blancos are willing to sell him if he doesn’t lower his wage demands.
