Postecoglou SACKED already? Forest fans turn on Ange and Marinakis
Ange Postecoglou was only appointed Nottingham Forest manager 9 September but already there are calls for the Australian to be sacked, with things turning ugly at the City Ground.
After stints at Yokohama and Celtic, Postecoglou won popular appeal during a two-season stint with Tottenham Hotspur, during which he won the Europa League.
His thrilling brand of attacking football caught the eye and won the praise of neutrals, yet Spurs had a soft underbelly during his tenure and narrowly finished above the relegation zone, leading to him being sacked in the summer.
There was optimism that Postecoglou would carry on Nuno Espirito Santo’s fine work in Nottingham after the Portuguese was fired after a fallout with Evangelos Marinakis.
It’s not proven that way, though. Forest are winless in five matches under Big Ange, with a 1-0 loss to Sunderland at home in the Premier League leaving the club 16th in the standings.
Now the pressure is on Marinakis as the owner takes the heat for the decision to part with the popular Santo and appoint Postecoglou.
Forest fans already want Big Ange out
“This is on Marinakis appointing his mate ... Nuno had to go but f*** me don't appoint a guy that almost took spurs down last season . As good as the attacking football has been in some games the shamble defensively is not good enough and will take us down if it carry on,” one fan on X complained.
Another grumbled: “I just don’t understand it. All the good managers that would have taken the job and we pick a guy who nearly took Spurs down. I wouldn’t mind if we were all-out-attack and flying forward but we couldn’t be any slower if we tried - even at 1-0 down we had one striker in the box.”
There is already a sentiment that appointing Postecoglou was a grave error, with another Forest fan chipping in: “Get this clown sacked before he relegates us. Absolute joke of a manager.”
Next up for Forest is a Europa League clash with Midtjylland – a match there is already pressure on Postecoglou to win.
