Barcelona target €100m Lewandowski replacement in bizarre move
Barcelona are interested in Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski, according to German media.
The Blaugrana are starting to think about life after Lewandowski, who continues to score regularly despite his advanced age. The 37-year-old has netted three times in five LaLiga appearances this term, but he could leave Barcelona next summer.
Although there is an option to extend his contract by a further season, reports are increasingly suggesting that the Poland international will leave Catalunya when his deal expires in 2026.
Naturally, Barcelona want to replace Lewandowski with a marquee forward. The likes of Harry Kane and even Erling Haaland are being tentatively linked with the reigning LaLiga champions, but this seems overambitious.
It appears more likely that Barcelona's next forward will be of a slightly smaller calibre. Indeed, BILD reports that head coach Hansi Flick is a big admirer of Borussia Dortmund star Serhou Guirassy.
Barcelona want Guirassy
On the face of it, this should not come as a surprise. The Guinea international has been incredibly prolific since returning to the Bundesliga in 2022, initially with Stuttgart.
He netted 44 times in 58 games for the Swabians and earned a move to Dortmund, where he has been equally on fire, finding the net 43 times in 56 outings. He came 21st in the Ballon d'Or top 30 ranking for his exploits last term.
However, what does not follow is the fact that the report claims Barcelona could pay up to €100 million for the 29-year-old. This seems bizarre - and not only because of the club's ongoing financial issues.
Guirassy should be available at a significantly cheaper price due to a €60m-€75m release clause in his contract, which is only active for certain 'big' teams. Barcelona are, by all accounts, among the clubs able to trigger this clause.
The report adds that Guirassy's agent is actively scouring the market for potential opportunities to secure what will potentially be his brother's last big contract. This is perhaps a giveaway that this rumour is being pushed by Guirassy's camp.
